US NHTSA Recalls: Joyson Safety Rear Seat Belt Retractors

Among the thirty seven (37) recalls the NHTSA announced this March comes news of the following:

Logo - Joyson Safety SystemsJoyson Safety Systems (“Joyson Safety”), formerly known as Key Safety Systems (“KSS”), an Auburn Hills, Michigan and a subsidiary of Ningbo Joyson Electronic of Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province Ningbo, China, has recalled an estimated 108,047 Rear Seat Belt Retractors equipped with a dual mode belt locking mechanism marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

NHTSA Safety Notification 20E011000 reports due to a manufacturing issue, the seat belt webbing locking mechanism may not properly restrain the occupant as intended.

According to the NHTSA, in the event of a crash, if the occupant is not properly restrained, there is an increased risk of injury.

Joyson Safety Systems (“Joyson Safety”), formerly known as Key Safety Systems (“KSS”) will notify the vehicle manufacturers that purchased the recalled Seat Belt Retractors. Dealers for those companies will in turn botify registered owners, and replace the Rear Retractor Assemblies, as necessary, free of charge. Owners may contact Joyson Customer Service at 1-586-726-3800 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”). Joyson’s designation for this recall is QN3998.
