US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Meijer Inc., a Walker, Michigan establishment, recalls an estimated 13,284 packages of Fresh From Meijer branded Mixed Nuts from the American marketplace due to suspected mispackaging and consequential undeclared Brazil Nuts, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Mixed Nut products are subject to this recall:

  • Fresh From Meijer branded Mixed Nuts, sold in clear plastic 16-ounce packages with sell-by dates of 7-16-2020, 9-5-2020 or 10-15-2020 and a UPC of 7-1928380863-9

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation.

According to the FDA, the recall was initiated after it was discovered the Mixed Nut product contained Brazil Nuts, an ingredient that is not part of the product formulation or declared on package labeling.

Subsequent investigation revealed an incorrect formulation was used to manufacture this product and should not have included the Brazil Nuts. The multi-state recall involves product potentially sold between December 5, 2019 and March 9, 2020 in all Meijer Super Stores located in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Mixed Nuts and could be allergic to their Brazil Nut ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.
