Australia ACCC RecallAustralia/Canberra: Horizon Power, an Esperance, Western Australia establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of WireAlert Plug in Devices from the Australian marketplace due to a suspected design fault and consequential risk of electric shock, electrocution, fire, burns and property damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Power Safety products are subject to this recall:

  • Horizon Power WireAlert Plugs, a plug-in device designed to detect faulty neutral electrical faults. If a line defect is found, the device is designed to device emit a loud, electronic warning alarm.

==> No barcodes, APNs, UPCs or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the ACCC, a component inside the recalled WireAlert Plug in Devices may be live with 240 volts of electrical current and is accessible through a hole in the case. If a metal object is inserted into the hole from which the warning alarm emanates, while the device is plugged in, the metal object may come into contact with the 240 volt line. In turn, this defect may cause electric shock or electrocution.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled WireAlert Plug in Device, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 0-0-0, your closest hospital or emergency centre equipped to properly treat electrocution and/or burns.

Always use appropriate personal protective equipment (“PPE”) when working with electrical fixtures, including gloves and protective eyewear. Ensure all circuits are turned off at the panel before working with any electrical appliance or lighting fixture.
