UK FlagUK/London: John West Foods Limited, a Liverpool, England establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of John West branded Sardines in Tomato Sauce due to suspected bacterial contamination and consequential risk of spoilage, bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

The UK Food Standards Agency (“FSA”) reports the following Sardine Fish products substitute products are subject to recall:

  • John West branded Sardines in Tomato Sauce, sold in 120 gram packages with a batch/lot code of KX319H and a best-before date of June 2022
  • John West branded Sardines in Tomato Sauce, sold in 120 gram packages with a batch/lot code of KX326H and a best-before date of June 2022

==> No barcodes, EANs, UPCs or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FSA, John West has recalled its Sardines in Tomato Sauce product due to suspected bacterial contamination that has resulted in a swollen cans. This spoilage may make the product unsafe to eat.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled John West Sardines in Tomato Sauce products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Sardine Fish products to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-9-9, your closest hospital A&E or emergency centre equipped to properly treat conditions caused by spoilage and/or bacterial contamination.
