Booth & Co Ltd., a Ribbleton, Preston, Lancashire establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Lemon Meringue Cake products from the British marketplace due to suspected mislabelling and consequential undeclared Almond Nuts, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention.

The UK Food Standards Agency (“FSA”) reports the following Meringue Cake products are subject to recall:

  • Booths Lemon Meringue Cakes, sold with a best-before date 3 February 2020

==> No barcodes, UPCs, EANs or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. Additional images of the recalled Lemon Meringue Cakes can be found on the Web site above.

According to the FSA, Booths has recalled certain batch/lots of Lemon Meringue Cake because some products may actually contain Bakewell Cake rather than the indicated Lemon Meringue Cake. Consequentially, the products may contain Almond Nuts, an ingredient not declared on the product label.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Lemon Meringue Cake products and could be allergic to their Almond Nut ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-9-9, your closest hospital A&E or emergency centre equipped to properly treat Anaphylaxis.
