US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Savannah Food Company, Inc., a Savannah, Tennessee establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Cornbread Dressing and Bread Stuffing products from the American marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination and consequential risk of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Cornbread Dressing and Bread Stuffing products are subject to this recall:

  • Savannah Classics branded 7 pound Special Cornbread Dressing, sold with a Savannah item designation of 39015
  • Savannah Classics branded 7 pound Classic Cornbread Dressing, sold with a Savannah item designation of 38016
  • Savannah Classics branded 4.5 pound Bread Stuffing, sold with a Savannah item designation of 38025
  • Morrison’s branded 7 pound Cornbread Dressing, sold with a Savannah item designation of 39012
  • Morrison’s branded 4 pound Cornbread Dressing, sold with a Savannah item designation of 39010
  • Piccadilly branded 2 pound Cornbread Dressing, sold with a Savannah item designation of 38017

According to the FDA, Savannah Food Company has recalled certain batch/lots of Morrison’s, Piccadilly and Savannah Classics branded Cornbread Dressing and Bread Stuffing products products from the American marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Cornbread Dressing and Bread Stuffing products identified above.

This notification was initiated as a knock-on recall from Savannah Food’s primary supplier Almark Foods, a Gainesville, Georgia establishment, because Almark Foods supplied certain lots of Egg ingredients that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. These Eggs are thought to be the source of an ongoing Listeria monocytogenes foodborne illness investigation.

Savannah Food Company has recalled the above Morrison’s, Piccadilly and Savannah Classics branded Cornbread Dressing and Bread Stuffing products because the Egg ingredients have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The affected Morrison’s, Piccadilly and Savannah Classics branded Cornbread Dressing and Bread Stuffing products were distributed by wholesale distributors to restaurants, delis, cafeterias and food service establishments in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Cornbread Dressing and/or Bread Stuffing products please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Cornbread or Stuffing products to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
