Thompson’s Waterproofing, Masonry Protectors Recall [US]

US FlagUS/Washington: The Thompson’s Company, a Cleveland, Ohio establishment, recalls an estimated 852,000 Aerosol Waterproofing Wood and Masonry Protectors from the American marketplace due to suspected internal can corrosion leading to structural failure and consequential risk of fire, burns, eye injury and property damage, all serious safety hazards.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves Thompson’s WaterSeal Waterproofing Wood and Masonry Protectors in aerosol cans, as follows:

  • The products are used to coat exterior wood to prevent water damage. The aerosol cans are 11 ounces and have a green or blue cap, depending on the product. The phrases, “Thompson’s WaterSeal”, “Wood Protector” or “Masonry Protector”, the item number and UPC can be found printed on the can:

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, the contents of the cans can react with the package, causing rust to form along the can seam. This rust could spread to other areas of the can and create pinhole leaks. Leaking propellant poses a fire hazard when it comes into contact with sources of ignition. Leaking sealer can also result in property damage.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Waterproofing products, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

Please note: disposal of this product must be in accordance with local municipal hazardous waste requirements to protect the drinking water supply and the ecosystem.
