Among the twenty nine (29) recalls the NHTSA announced this month comes news of the following:

Logo - General Motors LLCGeneral Motors LLC (“GM”), a Detroit, Michigan, establishment, has recalled an estimated 699 model year 2007-2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 vehicles equipped with non-desiccated, passenger frontal air bag inflators containing Phase Stabilized Ammonium Nitrate (“PSAN”) propellant that were used as interim remedy parts for previous Takata recall marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V011000 reports that the Inflators used in these recalled vehicles may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

According to the NHTSA, an inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

General Motors will notify registered owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflators, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin February 24, 2020. Owners may contact Chevrolet Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC Customer Service at 1-866-522-9559 all during normal business hours, Eastern Standard Time Monday to Friday. GM’s designation for this recall is N192290990.
