Fujitsu branded Lifebook E744 Notebook Computers

Canada/Ottawa: Fujitsu Canada, Inc., a Toronto, Ontario establishment, recalls an estimated 100 Fujitsu branded Lifebook E744 Notebook Computers from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected battery charging software malfunction and consequential risks of overheating, fire, burns and property damage, all serious safety hazards.

Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports this recall involves certain Fujitsu branded Lifebook E744 Notebook Computers with red trim on the keyboard and cover.

  • Only Lifebook E744 Notebook Computers are affected by this recall at this time. The model number can be found on the white sticker on the bottom of each Notebook Computer.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to Health Canada, as the battery pack in these recalled Notebook Computers get older, they may cause overheating due to a battery-related thermal event and pose consequential burn and fire hazards

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Notebook Computers, please stop using them. Instead, kindly download and install a software update called the “Battery Charging Control Update Tool” from the Fujitsu Web site at https://www.fmworld.net/globalpc/batteryctrl/tool.html. Alternatively, you can locate and download the Windows Update software module on the Lifebook E744 Computer. There is no replacement program applicable to the Fujitsu Lifebook E744: owners have only to download and install the Battery Charging Control Update Tool as explained above.
