US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Bakkavor Foods USA, Inc., a Charlotte, North Carolina establishment and a subsidiary of Bakkavor Foods plc of London, England recalls certain batch/lots of Trader Joe’s branded Egg Salad and Trader Joe’s branded Old Fashioned Potato Salad from the American marketplace due to suspected risk of Listeria monocytogenes contamination and consequential risk of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Prepared Egg and Potato Salad products are subject to this recall:

  • Trader Joe’s branded Egg Salads, sold in 6-ounce plastic tubs with use-by dates up to and including 12/27/19 [December 27, 2019] and a UPC that begins with 0066 6695
  • Trader Joe’s branded Old Fashioned Potato Salads, sold in 20-ounce plastic trays (pictured above) with use-by dates up to and including 12/27/19 [December 27, 2019] and a UPC that begins with 0032 1747

According to the FDA, Bakkavor Foods USA has recalled certain batch/lots of Trader Joe’s branded Egg Salads and Trader Joe’s branded Old Fashioned Potato Salads because these products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Salad products identified above.

This recall was initiated as a knock-on recall from Bakkavor Foods’ primary supplier Almark Foods, a Gainesville, Georgia establishment, because Almark Foods supplied certain lots of Broken Egg White ingredients in 20 pound pails that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. These Eggs are thought to be the source of an ongoing Listeria monocytogenes foodborne illness investigation.

Products were distributed to Trader Joe’s retail stores in Alabama, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont and Wisconsin.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Trader Joe’s branded Egg Salads and/or Trader Joe’s branded Old Fashioned Potato Salads, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the recalled Salads to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
