US FlagUS/Washington: Ashland Sausage Co., a Carol Stream, Illinois establishment, recalls an estimated 1,092 pounds of Berkshire Natural Casing branded Pork Sausage products from the American marketplace due to suspected plastic fragment contamination and consequential risk of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Pork Sausage products are subject to this recall:

  • Berkshire Natural Casing branded Pork Sausages, sold in 12-ounce (5 piece) plastic packages with a batch/lot code S318

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the USDA, Ashland Sausage has recalled approximately 1,092 pounds of Pork Sausage products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically hard, dark plastic pieces. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Pork Sausage products identified above.

In general, if plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage.
