Australia FlagAustralia/Canberra: Babilhara Lebanese Pastries and Sweets recalls certain batch/lots of Babilhara Baklava and Pistachio Baklava products from the Australian marketplace due to undeclared Peanuts, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention.

Additional information:
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Baked Goods are subject to this recall:

  • Babilhara Baklava, Middle Eastern pastries filled with nuts, sold in 250 gram plastic containers with a best-before date of 16 October 2020 and an APN of 9302551180264
  • Pistachio Baklava, Middle Eastern pastries filled with nuts, sold in 250 gram plastic containers with a best-before date of 16 October 2020 and an APN of 9302551535057

According to the ACCC, the recall is due to the presence of undeclared Peanut. Any consumers who have a peanut allergy or intolerance may have a reaction if the product is consumed.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household rubbish, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Baklava products and could be allergic to their Peanut ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
