US FlagUS/Washington: Montpak International Inc., a Laval, Québec establishment, recalls an estimated 2,804 pounds of Lamb and Veal products that were not presented for import re-inspection into the United Sates, with consequential risk of bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

Additional information:
The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Veal Bone, Cutlet Items and Lamb Carcasses were imported on December 4, 2019 and are subject to this recall:

  • Veal Bones, sold in 40-pound bulk boxes with a SKU of 97507U and Product of Canada rating with “CANADA 96” in the Canadian mark of inspection
  • Veal Marrow Bones, sold in 50-pound bulk boxes with a SKU of 97660U and Product of Canada rating with “CANADA 96” in the Canadian mark of inspection
  • Mechanically Tenderized Veal Leg Cutlet 2-ounce Chunks, sold in 10-pound bulk boxes with an EST 1809 locator and a packed-on date code of DEC-10-19
  • Mechanically Tenderized Veal Leg Cutlet 2-ounce Eye Rnd, sold in 10-pound bulk boxes with an EST 1809 locator and a packed-on date code of DEC-10-19
  • Whole Lamb Carcasses wrapped in cheese cloth.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the USDA, the products subject to recall bear establishment number “CANADA 96” in the Canadian mark of inspection or “EST 1809” on the box. These items were shipped to distributors in New Jersey, New York and Virginia.

The problem was discovered during routine US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) surveillance activities of imported products. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Veal Bone, Cutlet Items and Lamb Carcasses identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Veal Bone, Cutlet Items and/or Lamb Carcasses, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
