US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Tropical Nut and Fruit Co., a Charlotte, North Carolina establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Truly Good Foods South of the Border branded Nut Mix products due to mislabeling and consequential undeclared Almond Nuts and Soy, both known allergens, sources of dietary intolerance and possible triggers of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Nut Mix products are subject to this recall:

  • Truly Good Foods South of the Border branded Nut Mixes, sold 25 pound bulk cases with a batch/lot of 29119, a best-by date of 04/15/2020, an item number of 102340 and a UPC 094184110198

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Nut Mix products can be found on the Web site above.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, this recall was initiated after it was discovered that a different product was packaged inside the above-identified South of the Border cases. Consequently, different allergens from what is stated on the label may pose dangers to consumers. The mislabeled Nut Mix products were distributed to stores between 10/21/2019 and 12/05/2019. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Nut Mix products identified above.

The suspected mislabeled South of the Border Nut Mix products were sent to select retail locations of specialty grocer The Fresh Market stores, where it was sold in the bulk bin section. The product was known to be distributed to retail stores in the following states: NC (excluding Ashville), SC (only Myrtle Beach and Pawley’s Island stores), VA, IN, OH, PA, MA, NY, MD, DE, NJ, CT KY AND IL. No other The Fresh Market locations are impacted.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Nut Mix products and could be allergic to their Almond and/or Soy ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Truly Good Foods South of the Border branded Nut Mixes, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Nut Mixes to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
