US FlagUS/Washington: Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc., an Oakland, Mississippi establishment, recalls an estimated 172,692 pounds of Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Fried Rice products due to suspected plastic fragment contamination and consequential risk of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

Additional information:
The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Chicken and Rice meals are subject to this recall:

  • Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Fried Rice, sold in 54-ounce cardboard packages with various date codes including 3559007, 3559008, 3559015, 3559190 or 3559191 and various best-by dates of 1/7/2020, 1/8/2020, 1/15/2020, 7/9/2020 or 7/10/2020.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. Additional images of the recalled Chicken and Rice can be found on the Web site above.

According to the USDA, the Chicken and Rice products subject to recall bear establishment number “P-34708” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey and Texas.

The problem was discovered after the firm received consumer complaints. The firm then notified FSIS of the issue.. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Chicken and Rice meals identified above.

In general, if plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Fried Rice, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the meals to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
