Among the 81 (eighty one) recalls the NHTSA announced this past month comes news of the following:

Logo - ChryslerChrysler (FCA US LLC), an Auburn Hills, Michigan establishment and a subsidiary of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV of Amsterdam, Netherlands has recalled an estimated 51,788 model year 2012-2013 Fiat 500 Cars equipped with 6-speed automatic transmissions marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Logo - FiatNHTSA Safety Notification 19V817000 reports the shifter cable bushing may fail in the recalled vehicles allowing the cable to detach from the transmission.

According to the NHTSA, if the shifter cable detaches from the transmission, the transmission may not shift into the gear selected by the driver. Additionally, despite selecting PARK with the shifter, the vehicle may roll away. Either of these scenarios may increase the risk of a crash.

Chrysler will notify registered owners, and dealers will replace the shifter cable adjuster, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin January 4, 2020. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”). Chrysler’s designation for this recall is VB4.
