Additional information:

Among the forty eight (48) recalls the NHTSA announced this month comes news of the following:

Mazda North American OperationsMazda North American Operations (“Mazda”), an Irvine, California establishment and a subsidiary of Mazda Motor Corporation of Hiroshima, Japan has recalled an estimated 69,879 model year 2007-2012 CX-7, CX-9, and 2009-2012 Mazda6 vehicles marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

NHTSA Safety Notification 19V782000 reports these vehicles had their passenger frontal air bag inflators previously replaced under a prior recall using inflators of the same design. The replacement inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.

According to the NHTSA, an inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

Mazda will notify registered owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflator with an alternate one, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 18, 2019. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500, option 4, during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”). Mazda’s designation for this recall is 1317F. Please note: this recall supersedes NHTSA Recalls 16V356 and 17V012.
