US FlagCanada FlagUS/Washington & Canada/Ottawa: Hooey LLC, a Spring Branch, Texas establishment recalls an estimated total 7,120 of Hooey branded Children’s Sweatshirts (~US 6,600 in the US and ~520 in Canada) due to the presence of neck drawstrings and consequential risks of choking, strangulation and dragging, all serious safety hazards.

Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves fifteen (15) styles of Youth-Sized Sweatshirts with the “Hooey” brand or logo and drawstrings in the hood.

  • Each of the recalled Sweatshirts are made of polyester and cotton and typically have a single front pocket. Each design was sold in boys’ and girls’ sizes XS, S, M, L, XL. A white size label with the brand, “Hooey” and the origin statement, “Made in China” located at the center-back neck of the Sweatshirts. A label in the side seam has the garment care instructions.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, a drawstring in the Sweatshirt’s hood poses a strangulation hazard to children. Drawstrings can also become entangled or caught on playground slides, hand rails, school bus doors or other moving objects, posing a significant strangulation and injury hazards to children.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Children’s Sweatshirts, please do not use them nor dress your child in them. Instead, kindly take the recalled sweatshirts away from your child and remove the drawstring to eliminate the hazard. If you can’t remove the drawstring completely from the garment, please contact Hooey for information concerning the return of the garment and refund of the purchase price.

Please note: this is a joint recall from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) and Health Canada (“HCSC”).
