North Bay Produce Fresh Apple Recall [US]

US FlagUS/Silver Spring: North Bay Produce, Inc. a Traverse City, Michigan establishment, recalls an estimated 2,297 cases and two (2) bulk bins of Fresh Apples due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination and consequential risk of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Fresh Apple products are subject to this recall:

  • The recalled Apple varieties include McIntosh, Honeycrisp, Jonathan, Fuji, Jonamac and Red Delicious and were sold in plastic bags under the following brands; Great Lakes, North Bay Produce Pure Michigan as well as unbranded in clear plastic tote bags, white paper tote bags, and individually from retailers using display trays. The recalled Apples were shipped between October 16th, 2019 and October 21st, 2019 from one (1) North Bay facility to wholesalers, retailers and brokers in Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, North Carolina, Texas and Wisconsin.

According to the FDA, Apples purchased at retail prior to October 16, 2019 are not affected by this recall at this time, nor are other North Bay Produce products. As of the date of this recall notification, neither the FDA nor the company had been notified of any illnesses. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Fresh Apples identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Fresh Apples, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Apples to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisoning such as Listeriosis.
