Canada/Ottawa: Loblaw Companies Limited, a Brampton, Ontario establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of President’s Choice branded Lactose Milk-Based Powdered Infant Formula products due to suspected risk of Cronobacter spp. contamination and consequential risk of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Baby Food products are subject to this recall:

  • President’s Choice branded Sensitive to Lactose Milk-Based Powdered Infant Formula, sold in 638 gram plastic tubs with an best-before date code of EXP 2020 NO 05 and a UPC of 0 60383 12994 1

According to the CFIA, Loblaw Companies Limited has recalled certain batch/lots of President’s Choice brand Lactose Milk-Based Powdered Infant Formula products due to suspected risk of Cronobacter spp. contamination. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Infant Food product identified above.

Originally, the following following Infant Formula product was thought to be contaminated:

  • President’s Choice branded Lower Iron Milk Based Powdered Infant Formula, sold in 900 gram tubs with a best-before code of EXP 2021 AU 29 with a UPC of 0 60383 69839 3

After testing complete was completed, however, it was established this product is safe for consumption.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Infant Formula products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

Infection in infants with Cronobacter is associated with Neonatal Bacteraemia, Meningitis and Necrotising Enterocolitis with a high case fatality rate and ongoing disabilities.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Cronobacter infection.
