US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Peekay International Inc., a Maspeth, NY establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Keshav branded Dry Apricot Food Treats due to undeclared Sulfites, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Dry Apricot products are subject to this recall:

  • Keshav branded Dry Apricot Food Treats, sold in 7-ounce, clear plastic packages with a UPC of 4386423302
  • Keshav branded Dry Apricot Food Treats, sold in 14-ounce, clear plastic packages with a UPC of 4386423303

According to the FDA, the recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of Sulfites in the 14 ounce packages of Keshav Dry Apricot Food Treats, an ingredient not declared on the food product label.

In general, the consumption of ten (10) milligrams of Sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit serve reactions in some people with Asthma. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain Sulfite-sensitive individuals upon ingesting ten (10) milligrams or more of Sulfites. Analysis of the Keshav Dry Apricot Food Treats revealed they contained 109 milligrams of Sulfites per serving.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Keshav branded Dry Apricot Food Treats and could be allergic to their Sulfite ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat Anaphylaxis.
