US FlagUS/Washington: Zippo Manufacturing Company, a Bradford, Pennsylvania establishment, recalls an estimated total 758,000 of Ronson branded Tech Torch Auto Start Devices (~660,000 in the US and 98,000 in Canada) due to switching failure and consequential risk of fire, burns and property damage, all serious safety hazards.

Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves certain Ronson Tech Torch Auto Start Lighter Devices, as follows:

  • The recalled Torches are Red Utility Lighters with black rubber handles, black triggers and metal nozzles. They are packaged with a Ronson Butane Fuel Can. The brand, “Ronson” is printed on top of the Torch and the phrase, “Tech Torch” is printed on the base of the each Lighter.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the product’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Tech Torches can be found on the Web site above.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, the recalled Torches can continue to produce a flame after the activation trigger is released into the OFF position, posing fire and burn hazards. Zippo has identified thirty-six (36) reports in the United States of the Ronson Tech Torch continuing to operate after being turned off, including one (1) report of minor property damage. No injuries have been reported. As of September 4, 2019, the company has received one (1) report of the Torch not extinguishing after being turned off and no reports of injuries in Canada.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Tech Torch, please do not use it. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
