Canada/Ottawa: STIHL Limited, a London, Ontario establishment and division of STIHL Incorporated, a Virginia Beach, Virginia establishment recalls an estimated 3,991 STIHL branded PolyCut Trimmer Heads due to suspected component detachment and consequential risk of operator impact, laceration, and property damage, all serious safety hazards.

Additional information:
Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports this recall involves STIHL trimmer heads with the model names PolyCut 27-3 and PolyCut 47-3, and their corresponding Accessories, as follows:

  • The model name is located on the bottom of the product and the 11 digit item number can be found on the product packaging above the UPC or marked directly on the individual components, as follows:
    • STIHL branded PolyCut 27-3, sold with an item number of 4002 710 2176
    • STIHL branded PolyCut 47-3, sold with an item number of 4003 710 2117
    • STIHL branded Top 27-3, sold with an item number of 4002 713 9611
    • STIHL branded Top 47-3, sold with an item number of 4003 713 9606
    • STIHL branded Base, sold with an item number of 4002 710 9700
    • STIHL branded Deflector Kit, sold with an item number of 4003 007 1000
    • STIHL branded Blades, sold with an item number of 4002 007 1000

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to Health Canada, the screw connections may come loose in the recalled Trimmer Heads and Accessories. If this defect occurs, it can cause moving parts to fly off during operation, posing an impact hazard to operators and/or to those nearby.

As of September 5, 2019, STIHL has received one (1) report of an incident but no reported injuries in Canada. In the United States, the company has received twenty (28) reports of loose bolts or trimmer heads coming apart, including two (2) reports of injuries.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Trimer Heads and/or Accessories, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
