Australia FlagAustralia/Canberra: Metcash, a Macquarie Park, New South Wales establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Community Co Pink Himalayan Salt Grinder, Black Peppercorns Grinder and Salt Grinders due to suspected Plastic Fragment and consequential risk of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Spice products are subject to this recall:

  • Community Co. Pink Himalayan Salt Grinders, sold in 115 gram canisters with an APN/EAN of 9310246047617
  • Community Co. Black Peppercorns Grinders, sold in 50 gram canisters with an APN/EAN of 9310246047594
  • Community Co. Sea Salt Grinders, sold in 115 gram canisters with an APN/EAN of 9310246047600

According to the ACCC, a suspected packaging fault has resulted in the potential presence of plastic fragments. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Spices identified above.

In general, if plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household rubbish, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Spices, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
