US FlagUS/Washington: BCI Foods, Inc., a St. Hyacinthe, Quebec establishment and importer of record, recalls an estimated 3,304 pounds of Chef’s Cupboard branded Meat and Poultry Soup products due to suspected failure to present for import re-inspection upon entry into the United States, a serious health hazard.

Additional information:
The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Meat and Poultry Soup products were imported from Canada to the United States on July 17, 2019. The following Soup products are subject to this recall:

  • Chef’s Cupboard branded Classic Homestyle Chicken & Wild Rice Soup, sold in 19-ounce cans with a best-before code of “BB/MA 2021 MR 04” and a production code of “EST 142 602 19 064”
  • Chef’s Cupboard branded Classic Homestyle Italian-Style Wedding with Meatballs & Chicken Soup, sold in 19-ounce cans with a best-before code of “BB/MA 2021 MR 03” and a production code of “EST 142 603 19 063”
  • Chef’s Cupboard branded Chunky Beef with Country Vegetables with Meatballs & Chicken Soup, sold in 18.8-ounce cans with a best-before code of “BB/MA 2020 SE 25” and a production code of “EST 142 613 18 269”
  • Chef’s Cupboard branded Chunky Sirloin Burger with Country Vegetables Soup, sold in 18.8-ounce cans with a best-before code of “BB/MA 2021 FE 18” and a production code of “EST 142 613 18 269”

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. Additional images of the recalled Chef’s Cupboard branded Meat and Poultry Soup products can be found on the Web site above.

According to the USDA, the Soup products subject to recall do not bear the USDA mark of inspection, but instead bear Canada’s establishment number “142” within the Canadian mark of inspection. These items were shipped to ALDI stores in the US states of New York and Pennsylvania.

The problem was discovered during routine US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) monitoring activities of imported products.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Chef’s Cupboard branded Meat and Poultry Soup products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
