Canada/Ottawa: Dawn Food Products Inc., a Jackson, Michigan establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Dawn Food Products branded Powdered Food Ingredients due to suspected plastic fragment contamination and consequential risk of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Powdered Food Ingredients are subject to this recall:

  • Dawn Food Products Inc. branded Instant Clearjel, sold in 2 by 2.5 kilogram containers, a batch/lot designation of EH2173 and a UPC of 000 61752 01996 2
  • Dawn Food Products Inc. branded Instant Powdered Cream of Tartar, sold in 2 by 2.5 kilogram containers, a batch/lot designation of 7036 and a UPC of 000 61752 02045 6
  • Dawn Food Products Inc. branded Baking Powder – Regular, sold in 2 by 2.5 kilogram containers, a batch/lot designation of 987461 and a UPC of 000 61752 90125 0
  • Dawn Food Products Inc. branded Double Acting Baking Powder, sold in 3 kilogram containers, a batch/lot designation of 987462 and a UPC of 000 61752 02076 0

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CFIA, Dawn Food Products Inc. recalls certain batch/lots of Dawn Food Products branded Powdered Food Ingredients due to suspected plastic fragment contamination. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Powdered Food Ingredients identified above.

In general, if plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Powdered Food Ingredients, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
