Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports the following SunSetter Awning Covers:

This recall involves all soft Vinyl Awning Covers used with SunSetter Motorized, Motorized XL, Motorized PRO, Motorized PROXL and Oasis Freestanding Motorized Retractable Awnings distributed by SunSetter from June 1999 to January 2019 and supplied with bungee tie-downs. Please note: covers for manually operated Awnings are not affected by this recall.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the product’s design and retail presentation. Additional images of the recalled products can be found on the Web site listed above.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, if a Powered Awning is activated while the cover is secured with bungee tie-downs, when the Cover is removed, the Awning can open unexpectedly with enough force to strike an owner standing in the Awning’s path, causing him or her to fall and suffer serious injury or death.

SunSetter Products LP has received fourteen (14) reports of incidents, including one (1) report of a death and six reports of injuries. In one reported incident, a 73-year-old man died after falling from a ladder and over an elevated balcony when a SunSetter motorized awning opened unexpectedly and struck him while he was removing the Cover’s Bungee tie-downs.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled SunSetter Awning Covers, please do not use them. Instead, kindly following the following instructions:

  1. Owners should NOT attempt to install covers for the motorized awnings or remove any installed covers until you have received instructions from SunSetter.
  2. Owners should contact SunSetter for free breakaway safety clips (that replace the bungee tie-downs provided with the cover) and instructions for their use, and instructions on how to safely remove any installed bungee tie-downs (available at https://www.sunsetter.com/safety).
  3. SunSetter is contacting all known (i.e., registered) purchasers directly.
