Simond Toucan Climbing & Belay System Recall [Canada]

Canada/Ottawa: Décathlon Canada Inc., a Montréal, Quebec establishment, recalls an estimated five (5) Simond Toucan Light Climbing and Mountaineering Belay Systems due to unintentional locking during operation and consequential risk of getting stuck during climbing activity, all serious safety hazards.

Additional information:
Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports this recall involves certain Simond Toucan Light Climbing and Mountaineering Belay Systems, sold with an item number of 2575753.

  • The aluminum body of the recalled Mountaineering Belay Systems is light blue in colour with simplified operating diagrams engraved on the Belay System as well as information concerning rope compatibility. The phrase, “Simond Toucan Light” can also be found on each of the Mountaineering Belay Systems.

According to Health Canada, when two (2) climbers are belaying simultaneously from the Belay Stand and one (1) climber applies tension on the support line, the second climber is blocked. This represents a risk of getting stuck during the climbing activity. As of July 26th, 2019, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Climbing and Belay Systems, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
