US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Ragú Pasta Sauce Recall [US]Mizkan America, Inc., a Mount Prospect, Illinois establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Ragú branded Pasta Sauces due to suspected plastic fragment contamination and consequential risk of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following prepared Pasta Sauce products are subject to this recall:

  • Ragú branded Chunky Tomato Garlic & Onion Pasta Sauces, sold in 45-ounce glass jars with a cap code / best-if-used-by date code of JUN0620YU2
  • Ragú branded Chunky Tomato Garlic & Onion Pasta Sauces, sold in 66-ounce glass jars with a cap code / best-if-used-by date code of JUN0520YU2
  • Ragú branded Chunky Tomato Garlic & Onion Pasta Saucse, sold in 66-ounce glass jars with a cap code / best-if-used-by date code of JUN0620YU2
  • Ragú branded Old World Style Traditional Pasta Sauces, sold in 66-ounce glass jars with a cap code / best-if-used-by date code of JUN0420YU2
  • Ragú branded Old World Style Meat Pasta Sauces, sold in 66-ounce glass jars with a cap code / best-if-used-by date code of JUN0520YU2

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, Mizkan America has recalled certain batch/lots of certain Ragú Pasta Sauces in the United States because the Sauce due to plastic fragment contamination. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Pasta Sauces identified above.

In general, if bone, glass, metal, plastic and/or rubber fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Pasta Sauces, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Sauces to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
