Canada/Ottawa: Northfork Bison Distributions Inc., a Saint-Leonard, Québec establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Ground Bison Meat products due to suspected risk of Escherichia coli (“E.coli”) O121 and O103 contamination and consequential risk of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Bison Meat products are subject to this recall:

  • Natural Frontier branded Bison Ground Meat, sold in 280 gram packages with a UPC of 6 76842 00147 7
  • Sensations branded Extra Lean Ground Bison, sold in 280 gram packages with a UPC of 6 23682 11159 0
  • La Terre des Bisons branded Bison ground (lean), sold in 1.5 pound packages with a UPC of 96768420002598
  • Northfork Canadian Bison Ranch branded Bison Ground Regular, sold in 1.25 kilogram packages with a UPC of 86768420002577
  • Northfork Canadian Bison Ranch branded Bison Ground Regular, sold in 4.54 kilogram /10 pound packages with a UPC of 86768420002263
  • Northfork Canadian Bison Ranch branded Bison Ground Regular, sold in 4.54 kilogram /10 pound packages with a UPC of 96768420111061
  • Northfork Canadian Bison Ranch branded Bison Ground Regular, sold in 0.45 kilogram / 1 pound packages with a UPC of 96768420111054
  • Northfork Canadian Bison Ranch branded Bison Burger, sold in 20 by 8 ounce packages with a UPC of 96768420111092
  • Northfork Canadian Bison Ranch branded Bison Burger, sold in 4 by 4 ounce packages with a UPC of 96768420111184

According to the CFIA, Northfork Bison Distributions Inc. has recalled certain batch/lots of Ground Bison Meat products from the Canadian marketplace due to possible E. coli O121 and O103 contamination. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Bison Meat identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Bison Meat products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
