Additional information:
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Paint Stripper products are subject to this recall:

  • Selleys branded Poly Paint Stripper, a translucent liquid paint stripper for removing all household paints and most industrial, marine and automotive finishes, sold in 250 mL cans and distributed after 1 December 2018 and with a batch number that starts with the digit “9” and a barcode of 9310168506919. The batch number is a four digit number printed on the top of the can.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the product’s packaging, design and retail presentation.

According to the ACCC, the neck on the spout of the can may separate from the body, resulting in the product leaking out. This can result in skin irritation, eye damage and other serious injury.

The company suggests the following procedure:

“Consumers should put on latex or rubber gloves and check the batch number of any Poly Paint Stripper 250 mL cans they have, to see if the batch number starts with 9. The batch number contains 4 digits and is printed on the top of the can. If the batch number starts with a 9, still wearing the gloves, tape the lid to the can with duct tape or other similar tape, place the can in a plastic bag and in a box or carton in an upright position. Transport the can in the upright position to the nearest Bunnings store for a full refund.”
