Canada/Ottawa: United Natural Foods Inc. Canada, doing business as UNFI Canada, a Richmond, British Columbia establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of My/Mo branded bulk Mochi Ice Cream products due to undeclared Cashew Nuts, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Ice Cream products are subject to this recall:

  • My/Mo branded Mochi Ice Cream – Double Chocolate, sold in one (1) count of approximately 43 gram portion sizes and bulk packaged; affected batch/lots: all products where Cashew Nuts are not declared on the display freezer or point-of-sale label. This product was sold from Safeway locations at 1100-2850 Shaughnessy Street, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, and 2315 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver, British Columbia, up to and including June 13, 2019.
  • My/Mo branded Mochi Ice Cream – Ripe Strawberry, sold in one (1) count of approximately 43 gram portion sizes and bulk packaged; affected batch/lots: all products where Cashew Nuts are not declared on the display freezer or point-of-sale label. This product was sold from Safeway locations at 1100-2850 Shaughnessy Street, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, and 2315 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver, British Columbia, up to and including June 13, 2019.
  • My/Mo branded Mochi Ice Cream – Salted Caramel, sold in one (1) count of approximately 43 gram portion sizes and bulk packaged; affected batch/lots: all products where Cashew Nuts are not declared on the display freezer or point-of-sale label. This product was sold from Safeway locations at 1100-2850 Shaughnessy Street, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, and 2315 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver, British Columbia, up to and including June 13, 2019.
  • My/Mo branded Mochi Ice Cream – Vanilla Bean, sold in one (1) count of approximately 43 gram portion sizes and bulk packaged; affected batch/lots: all products where Cashew Nuts are not declared on the display freezer or point-of-sale label. This product was sold from Safeway locations at 1100-2850 Shaughnessy Street, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, and 2315 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver, British Columbia, up to and including June 13, 2019.

Please note: this is the retail packaging of this product, revealing detail of the Ice Cream products. The bulk packaging for the products included in this recall, however, do not include this detail.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CFIA, UNFI Canada has recalled certain batch/lots of My/Mo branded bulk Mochi Ice Cream products due to undeclared Cashew Nuts.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Ice Cream products and could be allergic to their Cashew Nut ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.
