US FlagUS/Washington: Apple, Inc. a Cupertino, California establishment recalls an estimated 457,000 MacBook Pro Laptop Computers due to overheating batteries and consequential risk of fire, burns and property damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves certain Apple 15-inch MacBook Pro Laptop Computers.

  • The recalled Laptop Computers have a 15.4-inch (diagonal) display, 2.2-2.5 GHz processors, 256 GB to1 TB solid-state storage, two Thunderbolt 2 ports, two USB 3 ports and one HDMI port. Owners can determine if their Laptop Computers is included in this recall by checking the Laptop’s serial number at https://support.apple.com/15-inch-macbook-pro-battery-recall/.

The serial number can be found on the underside of the Laptop Computers or by choosing “About This Mac” from the Apple menu. Only MacBook Pro 15-inch model Laptop Computers with certain serial numbers are included.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, the Batteries in the recalled MacBook Pro Laptop Computers can overheat, posing a fire hazard. Apple has received twenty six (26) reports of the Laptop’s battery overheating, including five (5) reports of minor burns and one (1) report of smoke inhalation, as well as seventeen (17) reports of minor damage to nearby personal property.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled MacBook Pro Laptop Computers, please do not use it. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

Please note: this is a joint recall from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) and Health Canada (“HCSC”).
