US FlagUS/Washington: San Giuseppe Salami Co. by Giacomo, an Elon, North Carolina establishment, recalls an estimated 832 pounds of ready-to-eat (“RTE”) San Giuseppe branded Frozen Andouille Sausage products due to suspected metal fragment contamination and consequential risk of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

Additional information:
The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Frozen Andouille Sausage products were produced on May 14, 2019 are subject to this recall:

  • San Giuseppe Salami Co. by Giacomo Andouille Sausage (Smoke Flavoring Added), sold in varying weights of vacuum-packed, individually-sealed packages with a sell-by date of 11/10/2019

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the USDA, the Frozen Andouille Sausage products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 21556” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail and institutional locations in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The firm contacted the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) after it received a report that a consumer found a piece of a metal ring in the product. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Salami products identified above.

In general, if plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Frozen Andouille Sausage products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
