Australia FlagAustralia/Canberra: Lactalis Australia Pty Ltd, a South Brisbane, New South Wales establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of numerous brands of Coles and Pauls branded Fresh Milk products due to suspected chemical contamination, specifically, a food grade dairy cleaning solution, and consequential risk of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract burn damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Fresh Milk products are subject to this recall:

  • Coles Lite Milk, sold in 1 L containers with use-by dates of 25 June 2019 and 26 June 2019 and an APN/UPC of 9300601011889
  • Coles Skim Milk, sold in 1 L containers with a use-by date of 25 June 2019 and an APN/UPC of 9300601011896
  • Coles Full Cream Milk, sold in 1 L containers with use-by dates of 25 June 2019 and 26 June 2019 and an APN/UPC of 9300601190010
  • Pauls Smarter White Milk, sold in 1 L containers with use-by dates of 25 June 2019, 26 June 2019 and 27 June 2019 and an APN/UPC of 9310036039471
  • Pauls Full Fat Cream Milk, sold in 1 L containers with use-by dates of 26 June 2019 and 27 June 2019 and an APN/UPC of 9310036015628
  • Pauls PhysiCAL Skim, sold in 1 L containers with a use-by date of 27 June 2019 and an APN/UPC of 9310036015642
  • Pauls PhysiCAL Low, sold in 1 L containers with a use-by date of 26 June 2019 and an APN/UPC of 9310036015635
  • Pauls Rev Low Fat, sold in 1 L containers with a use-by date of 28 June 2019 and an APN/UPC of 9310036033554

According to the ACCC, this recall is due to suspected chemical contamination in the Fresh Milk product, specifically, a food grade dairy cleaning solution. The Fresh Milk products may have a yellowish colouring and/or a metallic chemical taste. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Milk identified above.

In general, if cleaning chemicals are ingested, they could burn the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household rubbish, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Fresh Milk, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

Disposal of this product must be in accordance with local municipal hazardous waste requirements to protect the drinking water supply and the ecosystem.
