The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Bee Smokers are subject to this recall:
- Beekeeping Supplies Australia Pty Bee Smokers, battery operated devices used to smoke bees during beekeeping to reduce the chances of swarm attack during hive inspection, honey harvesting and other related activities.
==> No barcodes, UPCs, EANs, APNs or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the ACCC, the battery-operated Smokers have a small heat shield between the handle and Smoker barrel. The heat shield contains Chrysotile (i.e., white Asbestos). Breathing in Asbestos fibres can cause a range of serious medical conditions, including Asbestosis, Lung Cancer and Mesothelioma.
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Bee Smokers, please do not use them. Instead, wrap it in sturdy and air-tights plastic or seal in a sturdy plastic bag. It would be advisable to do this outside at a time of calm winds to reduce the chances of ambient Asbestos and possible lung disease.
Contact Beekeeping Supplies Australia to arrange return of the product for a full refund or replacement product. If you are unable to return product locally, please contact Beekeeping Supplies Australia to discuss options for disposing of the product.
==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 0-0-0, your closest hospital or emergency centre equipped to handle Asbestosis, Lung Cancer and Mesothelioma.
Always use appropriate personal protective equipment (“PPE”) when working with Asbestos fixtures or equipment, including gloves and protective eyewear. Ensure ventilation while the Smoker is unsealed. Remove all children from the area as well as others not directly involved with the operation.
