US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Brodt Zenatti Holding LLC, a Jupiter, Florida establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Karawan branded Tahini and SoCo branded Tahini due to suspected risk of Salmonella contamination and consequential risk of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Tahini Dressing products are subject to this recall:

  • Karawan branded Tahini, sold in 450 gram (15.87 ounce) jars with various expiration dates
  • Karawan branded Tahini, sold in 3 kilogram (105.822 ounce) pails with various expiration dates
  • Karawan branded Tahini, sold in 17 kilogram (599.6 ounce) buckets with various expiration dates
  • SoCo branded Tahini, sold in 380 gram (13.4 ounce) container with various expiration dates

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, this recall was initiated due to New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene laboratory results from two (2) samples of Karawan brand Tahini tested positive for Salmonella. Brodt Zenatti Holding LLC has ceased the importation and distribution of the product as FDA and Brodt Zenatti Holding LLC continue their investigation as to what caused the problem. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Tahini Dressing products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Tahini Dressing products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Tahini to the store, distributor or outlet where you purchased it for a full refund.
