US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Logo - Whole Foods MarketWhole Foods Market, an Austin, Texas establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Whole Foods Specialty made-in-house Basil Pesto and Specialty made-in-house Sundried Tomato Pesto sold at Whole Foods Market Stores in its North Atlantic region due to undeclared Milk, Pine Nuts and Walnuts, all known allergens, sources of dietary intolerance and possible triggers of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Pesto products are subject to this recall:

  • Whole Foods Specialty made-in-house Basil and Tomato Pesto products, sold in individual clear plastic containers and on antipasti bars with sell-by dates ranging from June 7, 2019 from June 26, 2019, as follows:
    • Whole Foods Market Specialty Basil Pesto, sold by the pound with a store PLU code beginning with 255926
    • Whole Foods Market Specialty Sundried Tomato Pesto, sold by the pound with a store PLU code beginning with 256009

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, the recalled Pesto products were sold between May 17, 2019 and June 4, 2019 at forty one (41) Whole Foods Market stores in Connecticut (Whole Foods Market Bishops Corner, Whole Foods Market Glastonbury and Whole Foods Market West Hartford), Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Pesto products identified above.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Pesto products and could be allergic to their Milk, Pine Nut and/or Walnut ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to handle Anaphylaxis.
