EU issues 42 Product, Toy & Vehicle Recalls

Among the 42 recalls the European Union has announced in its fifth (and final) report of May 2019, the following recall notification was made:

Red Copper 5 Minute Chef, a portable countertop hot plate kitchen cooking appliance, sold with a model designation of 22852A1 and a UPC of 97298029127.

The type of hazards presented in these recalled Countertop Cooking Appliance products include suspected electric insulation failure and consequential risk of electric shock and/or burns.

Specifically, the insulation between the mains AC connection and the conductive hot plate is insufficient. Consequently, the hot plate could become live, leading to the cook or those nearby receiving an electric shock if touched.

Due to these defects and their associated risks, these Red Copper 5 Minute Chef cooking appliances do not comply with the requirements of the Low Voltage Directive and the relevant European standard EN 60335.

Consequently, a recall of these products from end users and a withdrawal of the product from the market withdrawn from the European marketplace has been ordered.
