US FlagUS/Washington: Johnsonville, LLC., a Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin establishment, recalls an estimated 95,393 pounds of Johnsonville branded Ready-To-Eat Jalapeño Cheddar Smoked Sausage Link products due to suspected plastic fragment contamination and consequential risk of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following batch/lots of Jalapeño Cheddar Smoked Sausage products were manufactured and packaged on March 12 and March 13, 2019 are subject to recall:

  • Johnsonville branded Jalapeño Cheddar Smoked Sausages, sold in 14-ounce plastic film, vacuum packages with a best-by date of 06/09/2019

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Smoked Sausage products can be found on the Web site above.

According to the USDA, the products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 34224” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped US nationwide and internationally.

The problem was discovered when Johnsonville notified the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) that it had received a consumer complaint regarding Hard Green Plastic in its Sausages. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Smoked Sausage products identified above.

In general, if plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Smoked Sausage products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
