US FlagUS/Silver Spring: House of Spices (India), Inc., a Flushing, New York establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Laxmi branded Dried Apricot products due to undeclared Sulfites, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Dried Apricot products are subject to this recall:

  • Laxmi branded Dried Apricot products, sold in seven (7) ounce (~200 gram) clear cello plastic bags with a UPC of 2324617054

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Dried Apricot products can be found on the Web site above.

According to the FDA, the recall was initiated after it was discovered by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs that the Sulfite-containing Dried Apricot products were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of Sulfites.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Laxmi branded Dried Apricot products and could be allergic to their Sulfite ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to handle Anaphylaxis.
