US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Purely Elizabeth, a Denver, Colorado establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Purely Elizabeth branded Granola Bars due to suspected extraneous fragment contamination and consequential risk of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Granola products are subject to this recall:

  • Purely Elizabeth branded Coconut Cashew Grain-Free Granola, sold in 16-ounce white bags with best-before dates of 11/30/19, 12/3/19, 12/4/19 and 12/5/2019
  • Purely Elizabeth branded Coconut Cashew Grain-Free Granola, sold in 8-ounce white bags with a best-before date of 10/19/19
  • Purely Elizabeth branded Banana Nut Butter Grain-Free Granola, sold in 8-ounce white bags with best-before dates of 10/17/19 and 12/12/19
  • Purely Elizabeth branded Pumpkin Spice + Ashwagandha Grain-Free Superfood Granola, sold in 8-ounce white bags with a best-before date of 12/7/19

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, this recall was initiated due to possible foreign matter contamination of unidentified origin and composition. If you have purchased the Coconut Purely Elizabeth branded Cashew Grain-Free Granola, Banana Nut Butter Grain-Free Granola or Pumpkin Spice + Ashwagandha Grain-Free Superfood Granola, they may be affected by this recall. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Granola identified above.

In general, if bone, glass, metal, plastic and/or rubber fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Granola, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Granola to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
