US FlagUS/Washington: Vienna Beef Ltd., a Chicago, Illinois establishment, recalls an estimated 2,030 pounds of Skinless Beef Frankfurters due to suspected metal fragment contamination and consequential risk of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Beef Frankfurter products are subject to this recall:

  • Vienna Beef Skinless Beef Frankfurters, sold in ten (10) pound cases of 6″ 8s 10#” with a case code of 013180 and a package code 9122
  • Vienna Beef Skinless Beef Frankfurters, sold in eleven (11) pound cases of 6″ 11s 10#” with a case code of 013312 and a package code of 9122 or 9123
  • Vienna Beef Skinless Beef Frankfurters, sold in ten (10) pound cases of 7″ 9s 10#” with a case code of 013490 and a package code of 9122 or 9123

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the USDA, the products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 1” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to food service locations in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Skinless Beef Frankfurters identified above.

In general, if plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Skinless Beef Frankfurters, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the distributor, outlet or store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to handle internal lacerations.
