US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Brodt Zenatti Holding LLC, a Jupiter, Florida establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of retail and bulk Karawan brand Tahini due to suspected risk of Salmonella contamination and consequential risk of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Tahini products are subject to this recall:

  • Karawan branded Tahini, sold in 16-ounce plastic retail jars with an expiration date two (2) years after the production date
  • Karawan branded Tahini, sold in 39-pound plastic bulk buckets (shown) with an expiration date two (2) years after the production date

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, this recall was initiated due after New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene laboratory found two (2) samples of Karawan brand Tahini tested positive for Salmonella. Broddzenatti Holding LLC has ceased the importation and distribution of the product within the United States. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Tahini products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Tahini products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Tahini to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
