According to the FDA, Cargill’s animal nutrition business has recalled certain Southern States branded Animal Feed products due to Aflatoxin levels that exceed FDA’s action levels. The affected products, manufactured and sold in the eastern United States, were removed from retail shelves throughout February, March and April 2019 but stocks of the tainted Animal Feed may remain stored with farmers and other livestock producers. Livestock, horses, and poultry exposed to Aflatoxin are at risk of exposure to several health hazards.

Aflatoxicosis has the same acute and chronic adverse effects and health consequences across all species and age classes (immature and mature). Immature animals are more sensitive to Aflatoxins and Acute Aflatoxicosis may result in generalized hemorrhage, bloody diarrhea and death within just one (1) to three (3) days of consumption. In addition, Aflatoxin toxicity can cause reduced feed intake, reduced weight gain, liver damage, jaundice and eventually death. You should neither feed the recalled Animal Feed products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Southern States branded Animal Feed products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Feed products to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Animal Feed products, please do not feed them to your livestock.
