US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Hercules Candy LLC, a East Syracuse, New York, establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Cashew Brittle Bits products due to undeclared Peanuts, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Cashew Brittle products are subject to this recall:

  • Hercules Candy branded Cashew Brittle Bits, sold in four (4) ounce, clear plastic packages with a best-by date of 7/14/19 and a product number of 00369

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Cashew Brittle Bits can be found on the Web site above.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, the recall was initiated after it was discovered that the Peanut-containing Brittle was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of Peanuts. Subsequent investigation found the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging processes.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Cashew Brittle Bits and could be allergic to their Peanut ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.
