Australia FlagAustralia/Canberra: Chapley Group, an Australian establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of numerous types of Hot Cross Buns due to suspected plastic fragment contamination and consequential risk of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, a serious health and safety hazards.

The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Hot Cross Bun products are subject to this recall:

  • Chapley Group branded Chocolate Chip Hot Cross Buns, sold in 6-pack clear bags, a batch/lot designation of 0284944 and a packed-on date of 07 April 2019
  • Chapley Group branded Cranberry & White Chocolate Hot Cross Buns, sold in 6-pack clear bags, a batch/lot designation of 0284970 and a packed-on date of 07 April 2019
  • Chapley Group branded Hot Cross Buns, sold in 6-pack clear bags, a batch/lot designation of 0201040 and a packed-on date of 07 April 2019
  • Chapley Group branded Hot Cross Buns LGE Loose, sold in 6-pack clear bags, a batch/lot designation of 12018 and a packed-on date of 07 April 2019
  • Chapley Group branded Hot Cross Buns Fruitless, sold in 6-pack clear bags, a batch/lot designation of 0201027 and a packed-on date of 07 April 2019
  • Chapley Group branded Mini Hot Cross Buns, sold in 12-pack clear bags, a batch/lot designation of 0284494 and a packed-on date of 07 April 2019
  • Chapley Group branded Mini Chocolate Chip Hot Cross Buns, sold in 12-pack clear bags, a batch/lot designation of 0204254 and a packed-on date of 07 April 2019
  • Chapley Group branded Premium Hot Cross Buns, sold in 500 gram clear bags, a batch/lot designation of 0284543 and a packed-on date of 07 April 2019

==> No barcodes, UPCs, APNs or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the ACCC, the recall was initiated due to the presence due to suspected plastic fragment contamination.

In general, if plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household rubbish, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Hot Cross Bun products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
