US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Wakefern Food Corp., a Keasbey, New Jersey, establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Wholesome Pantry Organic Nut Butters due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination and consequential risk of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Nut Butter products are subject to this recall:

  • Wholesome Pantry branded Organic Creamy Salted Almond Butter, sold in 16 ounce plastic jars, with best-by dates of June 2020 or earlier and a UPC of 04119006004
  • Wholesome Pantry branded Organic Creamy Unsalted Almond Butter, sold in 16 ounce plastic jars, with best-by dates of June 2020 or earlier and a UPC of 04119006005
  • Wholesome Pantry branded Organic Unsalted Sunflower Butter, sold in 16 ounce plastic jars, with best-by dates of June 2020 or earlier and a UPC of 04119005827
  • Wholesome Pantry branded Organic Tahini Butter, sold in 16 ounce plastic jars, with best-by dates of June 2020 or earlier and a UPC of 04119005828
  • Wholesome Pantry branded Organic Cashew Butter, sold in 16 ounce plastic jars, with best-by dates of June 2020 or earlier and a UPC of 04119006006

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, Wakefern initiated this recall after being notified by its primary ingredients supplier, Oskri Organics Corporation of Lake Mills, Wisconsin, that several Nut Butters produced in its facility had tested positive for Listeria bacteria.

The recalled Nut Butter products were known to have been sold in ShopRite, Price Rite Marketplace, The Fresh Grocer and Dearborn Market stores located in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Virginia.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Wholesome Pantry Organic Nut Butters, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Nut Butter to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to handle bacterial poisoning.
