Additional information:

Among the 125 recalls the NHTSA has announced this March comes news of the following:

Logo - CumminsCummins Inc. (“Cummins”) has recalled an estimated 46,194 model year B6.7 Medium Duty Diesel Engines, part number D313029BX03, used in school buses, trucks and emergency vehicles, equipped with fuel module option number FS90301 or FS90453. The electric fuel heater within the fuel module may overheat and cause plastic in the fuel heater to melt and potentially catch fire. It may also lead to engine stalling.

According to the NHTSA, a fire increases the risk of injury. An engine stall can increase the risk of a crash.

Cummins will notify registered owners who have the affected engines in their vehicles. Cummins is still developing a final remedy. In the interim, owners will be mailed a letter advising them to remove the fuse supplying electrical power to the subject fuel heater and to inspect the heater for fuel leakage or damage and, if found, to contact Cummins to arrange for a repair (remove the damaged or leaking heater and replace it with a plug).

A second letter will be mailed when the final remedy becomes available. The recall is expected to begin on May 2, 2019. Owners may contact Cummins customer service at 1-800-286-6467.
