Canada/Ottawa: Logo - Tartine TartsTartine Tarts, a Burnaby, British Columbia establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Tartine Tarts Loving Pastries branded Shepherd’s Pie products due to suspected risk of metal fragment contamination and consequential risk of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Shepherd’s Pie products are subject to this recall:

  • Tartine Tarts Loving Pastries branded 4.25″ Shepherd’s Pie, sold in 295 gram packages with a batch/lot of 19039-006, a best before date of 19 AU 07, a master carton configuration of 12 by 295 grams and a carton UPC of 10661823130632 and a single serve UPC of 6 61823 13023 9
  • Tartine Tarts Loving Pastries branded 4.25″ Shepherd’s Pie, sold in 295 gram packages with a batch/lot of 19039-007, a best before date of 19 AU 07 and a carton UPC of 10661823130236

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CFIA, Tartine Tarts has recalled certain batch/lots of Tartine Tarts Loving Pastries branded Shepherd’s Pie products due to suspected metal fragment contamination. You should not consume the Shepherd’s Pie products identified above.

In general, if metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Shepherd’s Pie products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
